History

In 2012 the Texas A&M University College of Engineering Working Group was established and led by Dr. Robin Autenrieth, the department head of the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering and Dr. Jeff Froyd, research professor with Engineering Academic and Student Affairs.

From that effort came the recommendation to establish IEEI, in order to create a central body of people and resources dedicated to advancing the research and practice of engineering education to benefit students and contribute to national needs for a large, diverse, well-prepared engineering workforce. On Feb 1, 2013, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved IEEI as a System wide TEES institute (center). From 2013-15 interim directors, Drs. Valerie Taylor and P.K. Imbrie guided the program. On Jan. 1, 2016, Dr. Bonnie J. Dunbar was selected as director.
