The Innovation [X] project is an IEEI-led two-semester design project that explores innovative ways in which inclement weather situations can be mitigated for survival in the specific context of the state of Texas where cold weather has a particularly devastating impact on the power infrastructure.
A diverse team of students in a range of disciplines, spanning two university campuses, have worked to identify failures related to extreme weather conditions and to assess and prioritize issues of resiliency and its effect on various indigenous populations.
This team of interdisciplinary, undergraduate, and graduate students examined policy impacts for microgrid implementation in Texas compared to other regions of the country and presented the research at a regional level conference.
The team is currently working on a survivability kit with the potential for scalability and marketability to a range of consumers from low socioeconomic status families to full business solutions.
