The Institute for Engineering Education and Innovation, in association with the Office of Health Promotion, recently organized a Stand Up Trauma-Informed Care virtual workshop.
Participants learned positive and helpful ways to talk to those who have experienced trauma related to power-based personal violence during the training.
Various topics were discussed, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, social perspectives on how trauma is understood and responded to, how trauma impacts the brain and body, active listening techniques, tools for mandated reporters, and community resources.
As part of the workshop, participants thoroughly understood how power-based personal violence impacts the body and society and improves self-efficacy and competency in addressing initial conversations with trauma survivors.
The Step In Stand Up initiative reminds us that as active bystanders, we can prevent acts of violence and harassment and stand up for the survivors. By planning ahead, using the buddy system, and asking for consent, we can protect ourselves and each other!
